Obituary of Kevin Dale Anderson

Emmett, ID. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday January 24, 2023 at Park View Cemetery in New Plymouth, Idaho. Conducted by Pastor Philip Pittman. Condolences may be made to Kevin's family at shafferjensen.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette, Idaho. Kevin was born on September 10, 1955 to Fern C. and Charles C. Anderson, in Ontario Oregon and lived in New Plymouth, Idaho, Seward, Alaska, and Emmett, Idaho. After graduating from High School in 1973 he attended Idaho State University. When he realized that college was not for him, he went to Montana to work in the aperies industry. Upon returning to Idaho, he helped his dad with Koho Sports and trapped muskrat, fox, coyote, and beaver, while hunting and fishing. He loved the outdoors and nature. In 1985 Kevin packed up his car and moved to Alaska (the last frontier) to begin his life as an adventurist in the outdoors. He looked at life as an adventure and feared nothing. The reality is that Kevin was born 100 years too late in order to live the pioneer life he was drawn too and was his nature. Kevin, was self-educated, and became a jack-of-all trades, and a master of many. When he ran across something of interest, he would read and study anything and everything he could find until he had an in depth understanding of that subject. He was not limited in any aspect of his life. If it interested him, he gleaned an in-depth understanding of that subject matter and internalized it into his life. After moving to Alaska, Kevin continued his trapping, fishing, and hunting, while living in a remote cabin on the Kenia Peninsula without a proper floor, power, a phone, or any of the modern conveniences, for which we all strive. Realizing that his lifestyle was not self-sustaining he spent several years working in the fisheries industry and eventually became their night security guard. He then applied for and was employed as a prison guard for the state of Alaska in Seward. For 11 years, Kevin served as a security guard, eventually moving up to Shop Steward for the Guards Association, improving the lives and conditions of both the guards and the inmates. He said he was served 11 years of his 20-year sentence, with time off for good behavior. Kevin and Janie hosted many family and friends on fishing excursions out of Seward. Kevin never met a person he didn't like or learn from, nor a story he couldn't tell both real life or jokes, which we will deeply miss. Kevin met and married the love of his life, Janie Ruth Murdock on September 10, 1987 on his birthday so he wouldn't forget their special day. They continued their life in Seward until he retired from Alaska State Corrections. Janie and Kevin then moved to Emmett Idaho to begin the next stage in their lives. That new beginning was like the rest of his life an adventure. He purchased 5 acres, built a home and shop, raised cows, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and geese. Once again, he educated himself and began a small business in the bird industry incubating and hatching eggs for many all across southwest Idaho. Kevin is survived by his wife, Janie, six siblings, Karen Kreps of Emmett, Sherry Elson of New Plymouth, Ardith (Gary) Betzold of Meridian, Dixie (Nelson) McClain of Eden, Kent (Jeanette) Anderson of Parma, and Kip (Kathy) Anderson of Winston, Oregon, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. Also surviving Kevin are Janie's children: Janet Seipp of Port Orchard, Washington, Larry (Anna) Quantz of Tacoma, Washington, Gary (Amy) Quantz of Tucson, Arizona, and Mark (Diana) Murdock of Ocean Park, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents Charly and Fern Anderson, and two brothers-in-law Ray Kreps and Gerald Elson. The family wishes to thank Wendy from Heart and Home (Hospice) for her dedication and service, Pastor Phil Pittman, Shaffer-Jensen Mortuary, as well as close friends and family for their assistance in this difficult time.
