Obituary of Eunice Irene Conner

Eunice Irene Conner, age 93, of Fruitland Idaho, passed away peacefully June 2, 2022, at the Payette Care Center. Eunice was born in Pine Camp Nebraska, July 3, 1928, to Omar and G. Ezada (Cline) Betts, the first of nine children. The Betts family moved from Nebraska to Emmett, Idaho where Eunice went to Hanna School, finally moving to NuAcres, south of Fruitland. While attending the Christian Church in Payette, she became a Christian. She graduated from Fruitland High School then married S. Henry Conner July 7, 1946. They had four children. Eunice was the president of Farmeretts Club in NuAcres. She also was a member of West Valley Free Methodist Church in Fruitland from about 1950. She was leader of many children and youth programs and activities, such as CYC, FMY and Youth Bible Quiz Director. At the time her quiz team (including her daughter Shanna) won the local and Columbia River conference competitions and went to Nationals in Indiana. When her children were grown, Eunice began quilting and running the Idaho Food Bank, which she started. She loved sewing, baking and decorating cakes, many crafts, and helping anyone who needed a hand. She never met a stranger. Relatives in California gave Eunice the opportunity to travel to places like Knotts Berry Farm and Disney Land, in 1962, when the Snake River froze over in Payette County. Relatives in Oregon afforded her the opportunity to see the ocean at New Port. Her daughters who were married to military men, requested the honor of her presence in places from California to South Carolina, to Key West Florida, to Georgia, and Alabama. Eunice dipped her toe in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, the Gulf of Mexico, where Henry caught a nearly record-breaking sailfish, and many rivers in between. Eunice is survived by her children Shanna Holiday and Grace Syme of Colorado and Dale Conner of Fruitland; a sister Lois Barker; and brothers Gary and Gene Betts; sisters-in-law Joan Betts and Alta Southwell; her grandchildren Brian and Cathy Holiday, Cindy and Matt Wheeler, Jeff and Joylin Syme, Tony Syme and Rebekah Syme; her great grandchildren Conner Holiday, Jason, Erik, Tyler, Shawn and Sarah Wheeler, Mikayla and Shawn McGee, Elijah, Isaac and Isabelle Syme; and one great-great granddaughter Saoirse McGee.
