Obituary of Ernest "Ernie" Arlen Gentry Sr.

Ernie, 82 years old was born Feb. 24, 1939 to Robert Lee Gentry and Bertha May (Freeman) Gentry in Caldwell, Idaho. Ernie was the 6th of 7 children, and was raised in Wilder, Idaho. For a short time of his life his family lived in Missouri, but his parents and family found their way back to Idaho. When back in Idaho Ernie did odd jobs, he even worked at a circus working with the elephants and found a love for elephants. The way Ernie found the love of his life, Betty Jo Goff, he pulled up at the drugstore and asked Betty to go to the drive-in and said I can't dance. The couple went to the drive-in and Ernie said let's get married. On March 23, 1957 the couple got married. Over the years the family had moved from Payette, Idaho to Gabbs, Nevada, where Ernie worked in the mines and as quick response. From Gabbs, Nevada to Emmett, Idaho back to Payette, Idaho. Ernie and Betty knew how to make 5 holidays extra special with their 5 children, each born on a holiday and raised their family in Payette, Idaho. After retirement from Ore-Ida of 47 years, Ernie and Betty found their new town to call home in Fruitland, Idaho. Ernie loved spending time with his grandkids to his great-great grandkids. He enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, and square dancing. After retirement in their early years, they traveled to Arizona for 3 years with family. For several years every week Ernie and Betty would get dressed up and head out to dance their young hearts out. Ernie is survived by his wife Betty J. Gentry; children Brenda (Leland) Everhart, Linda (Dennis) Nelson, Victoria (David) Ingalls, and Ernest (Patty) Gentry Jr.; 20 grandkids, 31 great grandkids, 5 great-great grandkids; several that adopted him as a loving dad; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ernie is preceded in death by his angel family, his parents Robert Lee Gentry, Bertha May (Freeman) Gentry; siblings Starlin Gentry, Tommy Gentry, Herbert Gentry, Lonzo Gentry, Jewel (Gentry) Martin, and Mary (Gentry) Moore; daughters Rhonda Louise Gentry and Teresa Hazen; granddaughters Ashley Dawn Gentry and Kristan Millman.
